Launched in the summer of 2010, BALI TOMALI started out as a hobby with no planned motive for expansion. While working on the island of Bali, Indonesia, Founder & Brand Director Camy Tan made frequent trips to village craftsmen to feed her insatiable appetitie for one-of-a-kind, self-styled resort apparel and accessories.
Hanging out with her dog, she would often design to the sounds of a Balinese night - hollow chirping of resident geckos, distant barking of village dogs and the occasional cow mooing forlornly. They were her inspiration. Nature was her inspiration.
Using genuine python, cobra and watersnake skins with embellishments of collectible trinkets, beads and feathers, she works with village artisans to buff the skins by hand until the patina gives out an ethereal shimmer. The skins are so delicate and yet so hardy. So precious.
Never one to be contented with the ordinary, she works with traditional and contemporary artists to add elements of surprise to limited edition pieces in her collections. One such visual performance art collaboration inspired by Jackson Pollock had them finger-painting abstract streaks of metallic hues over layers of python belly skin.
Dreamt for the daring and made to last, BALI TOMALI bags and apparels are primed to look even better as they age... just like a well-travelled woman.
